Bio
By day, I'm a 'Process Simulation Engineer' (whatever that is) working for an (advisedly) unnamed Fortune 500 company, which I will call Company. In my free time, I work on a few hobby programming projects.

I studied Math and Religion at the University of Rochester, but I've left that place behind and returned to work nearer home. I'm also a self-educated geek of diverse disciplines. Really, I'm interested in everything, and I'll talk about all of it in this journal. To be blunt, I don't try to make it all worth reading, so go check it out to get an idea of my style. If you like what you see, then I'd be happy to gain you as a reader, and be happy to absorb as much information from your own journal as possible. Be forewarned: my interests come in waves, intense ones at that, and my posting habits will reflect that.

I'm a fairly conservative fellow. That is to say, for the most part, that I like to conserve things. Tradition is something I value strongly. I think manners are important. The passive voice pleases me. I support prescriptive English grammar. I love charity but I hate Robin Hood. I am not a Republican. I am not a Libertarian. I am not anti-party. I lament the death of the U.S. Constitution and its beautiful process of amendment. I fear deeply for the survival of our Republic in the face of menacing threats, foreign and domestic. On that front, I can only appeal to Almighty God for help.

This description really only begins to scratch the surface of where I am coming from, what I am doing, and where I am going. The only way to learn more is to read the journal. Who reads these profiles, anyway?

"The very idea of freedom presupposes some objective moral law which overarches rulers and ruled alike...Unless we return to the crude and nursery-like belief in objective values, we perish." -- C.S. Lewis

"If Christianity goes, the whole of our culture goes. Then you must start painfully again, and you cannot put on a new culture ready-made. You must first wait for the grass to grow to feed the sheep to give the wool out of which your new coat will be made. You must pass through many centuries of barbarism. We should not live to see the new culture, nor would our great-great-grandchildren; and if we did not one of us would be happy in it." -- T.S. Eliot

"I believe what really happens in history is this: the old man is always wrong; and the young people are always wrong about what is wrong with him. The practical form it takes is this: that, while the old man may stand by some stupid custom, the young man always attacks it with some theory that turns out to be equally stupid." -- G.K. Chesterton

"People say they have to express their emotions. I'm sick of that. Photography doesn't teach you how to express your emotions; it teaches you how to see." -- Berenice Abbott

"Fundamentally, there are only two ways of coordinating the economic activities of millions. One is central direction involving the use of coercion - the technique of the army and of the modern totalitarian state. The other is voluntary cooperation of individuals - the technique of the marketplace." -- Milton Friedman

“[The professional businessman] is the great liberator, who in the short span of a century and a half has released men from bondage to their physical needs, has released them from the terrible drudgery of an eighteen-hour workday of manual labor for their barest subsistence, has released them from famines, from pestilences, from the stagnant hopelessness and terror in which most of mankind had lived in all the pre-capitalist centuries and in which most of it still lives today in non-capitalistic countries." --Ayn Rand
